Teachers and students of the College of Mechanical Engineering visit the National University of Singapore for an exchange and study summary in 2019

To serve the "Double First-Class" construction of the school, vigorously promote the cultivation of international talents, and enhance the international perspective of students, the College of Mechanical Engineering selected some undergraduate students of 2015 to visit the National University of Singapore for a five-day exchange study.

Prof.Zeng Kaiyang, Head of the Department of Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS), extended a warm welcome to 39 students and teachers from the College of Mechanical Engineering of Chongqing University (CQU) in the teaching building of the Department of Engineering at 10 am on August 20, 2019. Professor Zeng introduced the general situation of the University and the College from the aspects of specialty characteristics, teaching, scientific research, transformation and application of achievements, talent training system, composition of faculty and staff, laboratories, capital investment and achievements in running schools. He hoped that students from College of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering of Chongqing University could have face-to-face communication with teachers and students from National University of Singapore, so that they could not only exchange majors, but also feel the culture of Singapore and learn more about the culture of Singapore.

Prof.Zeng also introduced the training methods of postgraduate students (especially Ph.D. students) and the "ME3+1+1" program of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of National University of Singapore. Prof.Zeng encouraged students to actively apply for the postgraduate program of the School of Mechanical Engineering of Chongqing University to seek for better academic breakthroughs. The strategic connectivity project between China and New Zealand reflects the country's new measures of opening up and development, and also presents Chongqing with new opportunities for inland opening up. The "ME3+1+1" program provides more choices for the future development of university students.

In the evening, under the leadership of the teacher, the students audited the course of Feedback Control Systems of the first-year graduate students of National University. The teachers of National University spoke in a simple and profound way, and the vivid lectures impressed the students a lot. The one-day schedule was compact and full, and the students said they benefited a lot.

Although the exchange of several days was short, it left a deep impression on the students, and they also put forward higher requirements for their future study and life development. Thus, this exchange and study activity in National University of Singapore came to a successful end.

Chuanglai Liu said: the beautiful journey is always short. This exchange of learning, in addition to learning enlightenment, for their own cultivation of refining is also enlightenment. I learned the free learning style of communication and discussion and the "green self-help" spirit of gentlemanly manners, and felt the importance of language learning. Thank you for this exchange and study. After that, I will bid farewell to my undergraduate period with a gorgeous turn and set higher standards for myself.

Honghai Huang said that all the professors and experts in the class used a lot of vivid examples to simplify and clarify a seemingly complex problem through simple and easy expression, which greatly broadened their thinking. The professors' lectures are not so much about imparting knowledge as teaching us how to think and how to think creatively. I have benefited a lot from them.

Chenchen Dong said: "Only by going out can we have a better understanding of the outside world and a deeper understanding of our own country. We shall neither belittle ourselves nor be blindly conceited. "I am very grateful that the school gave me this opportunity to visit and exchange students, which not only enriched my own life and learning experience but also enabled me to have a better understanding of the cultural and educational life in Singapore. Meanwhile, it also allowed me to make a small contribution to the promotion of our school's popularity and the dissemination of Chinese culture.

Wenxin Ren said: the obvious feeling is that the laboratory of NUS is not only a large space, but each person or each project group also has enough independent experiment area, and they are kept very clean, even including a large laboratory with a lot of large mechanical equipment. In contrast, in our laboratory, where there is mechanical equipment, it is easy to be filled with oil everywhere, even on the ground, and some laboratories storing small equipment are messy, tools are placed everywhere, not beautiful, affect the experimental work efficiency, but also may cause some safety risks. This point is very worth our learning.

Yue Xu said: this study visit in Singapore gave me a lot of feelings and thinking. The relaxed and free teaching atmosphere and strong self-discipline can give students the space to create their value. The casual and inclusive classroom concept shows a learning attitude that embraces all rivers. I was deeply impressed by the high quality and complacent lifestyle of the local people and the cultural quality of the students. Studying and exchanging abroad is one of the important ways to broaden one's horizon and absorb the essence of one's thoughts, which also reflects the truth that true knowledge comes from practice. This exchange made me feel the difference between different ways of thinking and the kindness, friendliness, respect, and etiquette of Singaporeans.
